01 - Course Introduction
In this module, students are introduced to the concepts of Business Performance Management (BPM) scorecarding methodologies including Kaplan Norton's Balanced Scorecard. Students are shown the final solution that they will build throughout the course.
02 - Introduction to Business Scorecard Manager
BSM is an integral part of the Microsoft Business Intelligence ecosystem. This module introduces the role BSM plays in Microsoft's strategy of "delivering BI to the masses". Students learn about BSM's flexible architecture, integration with SharePoint and the ability to create a library of rich, reusable objects that present data from a variety of sources.
03 - Development and management with BSM Builder
In this module, students begin by exploring the functionality of BSM Builder; how it is used to build scorecarding solutions and manage the Scorecard Server. Practical experience is gained by creating and publishing the four major elements of a BSM solution: Indicators, Data Sources, KPIs and Scorecards. Students also learn to create and configure Scorecard Views and Report Views in order to expose data to end users in the most effective way.
04 - Deploying and developing dashboards
Once created, the scorecard solution can be deployed and the dashboard design can begin. Using the theory presented in this module, students deploy their work to both SharePoint sites and Reporting Services reports. Students are instructed on "best practice" design, and gain practical experience with the many options available to create effective, useful scorecard dashboards
05 - Securing scorecards
Data security can be controlled from a number of different areas in an IT environment. BSM provides role-based security capabilities on the objects managed in the Scorecard Server. In this module, students learn about BSM security. In addition, they learn how security is implemented in SharePoint and how the sources of scorecard data contribute to the overall security of a BSM solution.
