MENTORING SERVICIES With Solid Quality Mentoring services, you can put the skills of our highly-skilled team of experts to work for you.
Our strength is our people. Each member of Solid Quality is a recognized leader in the industry, with experience designing and implementing solutions, teaching and training, and authoring books and articles on the Microsoft database platform. This unique blend of real-world experience with proven training techniques sets our Mentoring services apart from any other service offering you will encounter in the market.
Why mentoring instead of consulting? Consulting services often fall short of a company's real needs. A consultant comes in to work on a problem, fixes the problem and leaves. You are left wondering what they did, why they did it, and how you will manage it without having to call the consultant back in. You have, in essence, hired a contractor.
Our mentoring service uses a different model. One or more of our Mentors will come to your location to work on the issues affecting you - blending hands-on fixes with training. Not only do we create a solution, we also take the time to perform the necessary knowledge transfer so you can be successful going forward. When we leave, you have the knowledge necessary to implement and manage the solution over time.
To reinforce these services, we use a blend of remote support technologies to build a virtual team to support our customers' needs. These technologies include remote access, VPN access, iMentoring and iMeetings. We can often operate a virtual team without incurring unnecessary travel costs - using your budget more effectively.
The following descriptions of recent Mentoring engagements should give you an idea of the power and flexibility that our approach provides.
Investigating a performance issue related to deploying replication. Wanted a system review performed with respect to performance in order to determine how best to address the issue in order to solve a customer problem. In 2 days, Solid Quality broke down the application, isolated the main performance bottlenecks, and delivered nearly 6 hours of training in both performance issues as well as replication architecture and internals
Analyzing their new architecture for a new release of their software, which includes testing patterns that can produce bottlenecks for some of their customers. This is an ongoing project where our mentors participated on demand to provide specific guidance on how to make their application more robust under many different deployment scenarios. This work involves knowledge transfer in areas as varied as performance tuning, clustering configuration, Transat-SQL, and C++ development. Three mentors work in this project remotely, from three different countries, providing the right mix of expertise that this company requires under the right budget.
In the design phases of a replication roll out affecting global operations with very strict latency requirements. Solid Quality spent 3 days with them in mainly an advisory/training role where we explored multiple issues in terms of replication architecture, performance, and replication knowledge. We were able to solidify their options as well as provide over 8 hours of training and leave them with a clear path and clear understanding for the implementation they are currently performing.
Investigating performance issues in a application migrated from a mainframe that requires to run a very complex and long process under a specific time window. One mentor was involved during a ten day assignment leading the way to important savings in execution time of up to 90% in some processes.
Looking at a replication implementation in order to distribute data to offices with the goal of reducing the response time for a desktop application. Solid Quality was able to break down the application and provide metrics which pointed to a rearchitecture of the application having the most benefit to the response time. We are also able to demonstrate that replication was not going to appreciably affect performance of remote offices which allowed the company to avoid a costly infrastructure project.
One mentor delivered a four day, specially designed course as a workshop to discuss server integration issues and high availability requirements, as a migration from an Oracle platform.
Needing to address performance issues in an application as well as evaluate the code base of issues which needed mitigation. In 2 separate engagements spanning 4 weeks, Solid Quality was able to provide a nearly complete breakdown of all of the issues related to database structure and code in order to provide a roadmap for mitigation within the database which is being further expanded into the application tier. We delivered code which reduced processing time for 2 key processes by almost 80% while retaining all functionality. During this engagement, we delivered more than 20 hours of targeted training on a variety of issues related to performance.
Looking at their first implementation of clustering. Solid Quality spent 5 days in a basic one on one training session which spanned the entirety of their SQL Server operations and code base along with implementing their first cluster and leaving them with the knowledge to carry on to subsequent deployments while improving their processes along the way.
Having performance issues across their application. Solid Quality was able to break down the application in approximately 5 days and document several mitigation paths which are currently being pursued while providing nearly 30 hours of targeted training.
Had a very large, distributed, and clustered environment with very few resources for management who wanted an architectural review. In 2 weeks, Solid Quality was able to document the main issue within the environment as well as provide over 15 hours of direct training which is currently being leveraged to mitigate multiple issues...
